Texture plates are a fun tool to use (you put a plastic texture plate under the paper and I have my students use Prismacolor colored pencil sticks to rub on the paper, using the edge flat on the surface instead of a pencil tip which ends up too "liney!"

This year was the first year I bought Crayola Overwriter markers. They are wonderful! My students loved creating fun patterns by repeating lines and shapes like these drawings..
